Poems for Her

Love · Devotion · For Her

She may never know everything it cost me to love her — but she will know that I did. These poems are for her: the beauty I had to commend, the dance I couldn’t look away from, and a devotion that doesn’t die just because it isn’t held.

ALL YOU

How she danced, as if a flowing stream, with swirls of
twinkling stars.
A voyage of possibilities,
who could ever know
how such beauty traveled so far?
A romance that resides in life’s breath,
as amazing as it sounds,
it’s just who you are.

COMMENDED BEAUTY

Forsaken then, before winds,
In which did not blow.
For I commend thee and all beauty's fluted light,
As if a gift of life,
Existing never yet,
Until music played,
Ears did not know.

Like nothing persisted to be dignified,
Devolved glory and pride,
Then there you stood, right there,
Standing on hope's side,
Where all hearts perished,
But one,
The one for you,
I could not hide.

UNDYING ORCHID

If orchards died but awoke in your eyes,
Selfless petals would pay homage,
Wishing such orchids pretentiously
Impress rested places,
Placing restored life in a prosperous sky.

Welting mounds swelled,
Dismantling a cemented heart,
Swollen shut from the rivers flowing.
Secretly, tears never succumbed,
Never dried,
floodwaters swallowing wells.

Feeding loves' dying orchards,
blossoming outside gasping shadows
of an orchid never meant to rise.
